IIMB’s EPGP Digital Summit ushers in ‘A Brave New World’

A young man working in a major investment bank in Bangalore said, “Digital Summit has given me much needed insight towards the Fin-Tech sector. Coming here on a Saturday, I can say I made the most of my time.” This statement summarizes the success of Digital Summit 2016.

Digital Summit, an initiative by the one-year fulltime Executive Post Graduate Program of IIM Bangalore to engage industry and academia in a dialog about emerging trends in technology, was a packed event on 17th September, 2016. The annual symposium serves as a potent medium to understand new trends in digital domain and figure out effective ways of leveraging the digital media for gaining competitive advantage in business

True to the theme for this year—A Brave New World—all the events involved renowned personalities working at the forefront of digital transformation in India. Well-received panel discussions and much appreciated industry talks covered a wide variety of topics related to the digital future.

The various sessions included:

Key Note Address by Manging Director(R&D), Microsoft India:

Mr. Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt. Ltd., would delivered the keynote address. Speaking about ‘Digital India – Empowering Every Indian to Do More,’ he highlighted the potential for inclusive growth through digital transformation of India.

Frictionless payments: Transforming India through Digital Financial Inclusion

Dr. Charan Singh, RBI Chair Professor, IIM Bangalore, moderated the panel comprising Mr. Ashvin Vellody, Management Consulting Partner, KPMG; Mr. Ashootosh Chand, Partner & Leader PwC and Mr. G.P.Ray, DGM, SBI. Interesting viewpoints were put forth in the discussion.

Smart Industries

Mr. Ankur Dang, Director, Software Engineering GE Digital spoke about the impact of smart technologies on industries and the role of digital transformation on the next wave of manufacturing growth. He spoke of the digital imperative and customer value proposition for industrial companies.

Health Care and Technology and Wearable Devices

Mr. Kishan Srinivas, Practice Manager, Cerner India addressed on the digitalisation of healthcare while Mr. Ravindra Shet, Director, Samsung Electronics focussed on wearable devices and their impact on our lifestyle.

Data Driven Decisions

Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Chairperson, EPGP and one of the most renowned academicians in the field of Data Analytics in India headed the panel discussion on data driven decision making. Mr. Shailesh Kekre, Partner, McKinsey, Mr Sujith Sudhakaran, Sr Director Brand Marketing, Myntra and Dr. Kingshuk Bannerjee, Director, Global Business Service, IBM engaged the audience in an interesting discussion.

Social Commerce

Delivering an address on Social Media marketing, Mr. Balendu Srivastava, Marketing Science, Facebook India highlighted how social commerce is disrupting traditional ways of gaining and retaining consumer mindshare.

Digital Marketing – The next wave

Ms. Sreelata Jonnalagedda, Associate Professor, Marketing moderated an insightful panel discussion with Mr. Sreekant Lanka, Head of Sales Solution, Google, Ms. Vasuta Agarwal, VP & GM, India InMobi and Ms. Vanaja Pillai, Branch Head, OgilvyOne Worldwide. It was an interesting dialog on opportunities and challenges in engaging consumer faced by marketers in an increasingly mobile-first digital world where social media plays a decisive role.
